Sundar Pichai was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alphabet Inc., parent company of Google, in December 2019. Before he became CEO, Pichai worked as the CEO of Google since 2015 and was responsible for products such as Search, Ads, Maps, YouTube and Android. He joined Google in 2004 as a product manager and quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most important figures at the company.
Before joining Google, Pichai earned his degree from Stanford University and attended Wharton School for business administration. He also held various positions with McKinsey & Company and Applied Materials Inc., two major Silicon Valley companies. In addition to his role at Alphabet Inc., he also serves on the board of directors for The Walt Disney Company.
Pichai has been credited with driving many successful initiatives at Google throughout his tenure. He spearheaded projects such as Chrome OS, which was designed to run web-based applications on Chromebooks; Android Wear; and a wide range of cloud-based services for businesses. Additionally, he helped launch virtual reality technologies such as Daydream View and Cardboard VR Headset. Pichai also oversaw massive projects such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), augmented reality (AR) and natural language processing (NLP).
